The Senator who represented Anambra South Senatorial District in both the 7th and 8th Senate and a leading All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant for the forthcoming governorship election, Distinguished Senator Emmanuel Andy Uba, MFR (Igwebuike Anambra), has added his voice to the recent landmark judgement of the Supreme Court concerning the running of Local Government Councils.

It would be recalled that the Apex Court of the land last week, delivered a landmark judgement against the idea of running Local Government Councils with Caretaker Committee instead of, democratically elected Chairmen and Councilors. The Supreme Court judgement was given against the illegal dissolution of elected LGA Chairmen and Councilors two years ago by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Reacting to the judgment, Senator Andy Uba applauded the courage of the jurists for stand in the side of sanity, truth and moral probity. He stated that the judgement will go a long way in entrenching real democracy in that level of Government which will in turn, engineer rapid developments at the grassroots.

The former lawmaker  saw the Supreme Court as a great boost to democracy in Nigeria. He frowned at the level of bastardization that democracy has been subjected to in the Country especially as it relates to the running of Local Government Councils.
Sen. Andy known for his gentility and humility, made it clear that the sanctity of this level of Government ( Local Government Councils), will be sacrosanct under his leadership if given opportunity to lead the State.

“Everyone knows that our local governments have been put down because of the greed of a number of governors who used unconstitutional means to subvert the process and deny the third tier of government the necessary developments.

“Thankfully, the Supreme Court judgement has come to its rescue and with the pronouncement, not only will Caretaker Committee become illegal but also the tenure of democratically elected officials at the local government areas will be unassailable.

“We will not continue with such a practice. As Anambra will not only have duly elected officials at the Local Government level but, we will also ensure that elections are held at regular intervals as spelt out by the constitution.

“For me the sanctity of the local government areas will be sacrosanct under my watch as Governor,” the APC. frontline guber aspirant hinted.
