Overv 300 Kankara schoolboys have been released today, Thursday, December 17, 2020, after being abducted last week by Boko Haram from their school in Katsina state.
Katsina state Governor Aminu Bello Masari confirmed their release in a state television.
“We have recovered most of the boys.
“We have protected and secured all our schools. We are going to increase the number of security operatives in our schools to make sure that we don’t experience what we have experienced in the past six days. We want to encourage communities around those schools to form another security unit around the schools,” “ he said.
He stated that the boys who were released were found in a forest in the neighboring Zamfara state.
President Muhammadu Buhari who celebrated his 78th birthday today on receiving the news of the released Kankara schoolboys said “I welcome the release of the kidnapped students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara. This is a huge relief to the entire country & international community. The entire country is grateful to Governor Masari, the Intelligence Agencies, the Military and the Police Force.
“Our administration is fully aware of the responsibility we have to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians. I ask Nigerians to be patient and fair to us as we deal with the challenges of security, the economy, and corruption. We will not relent.”
