A socio-political group ” Women for Change Initiative ” has assured a renowned economist and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Alex Otti that thousands of women across the 17 Local government area of the state, especially those in the APC have resolved to give their unflinching support to his political aspiration because they are convinced of his selfless disposition which has propelled his courageous and consistent push to ensure that Abians are provided with the gains of democracy.
Speaking during a solidarity visit to Dr. Otti at his country home of Umuru Nvosi in Isialangwa South LGA, the leader of the women group and member of the APC, Chief Mrs. Jane Ogbauta, told Dr. Otti that their visit to him and their resolve to fearlessly stand by him was motivated by their desire to herald a new Abia where the interest of women would be effectively protected through good governance which she said is presently lacking in the state, and made it clear that their group is not driven by money or any other material things, but by the genuineness and sincerity of Dr. Alex Otti’s aspiration, which she said the financial expert has pursued with candour and courage.
Mrs. Ogbauta argued that women as the weaker vessels are usually the worse victims of bad governance hence their decision not to keep quiet while bad governance festers in the state.
She recalled that even as an APGA member, Dr. Alex Otti fearlessly stood by her and her group by personally reaching out to the then Commissioner of Police to provide them with security when she and other members of her group were attacked by hired thugs in Aba two years ago, even when Otti didn’t know her at that point in time, and restated that Otti’s altruistic disposition across party lines is the ingredient required to restore Abia to Abians.
Responding, Dr. Alex Otti thanked the women for visiting him, and promised to continue to contribute his quota towards the actualisation of an Abia envisioned by the founding fathers of Abia state, and assured the group of his consistent support to them and other groups that may be pursuing noble causes for the betterment of Abia.
Dr. Otti disclosed that he got involved when the group reached out to him following the attack on them by thugs in Aba two years ago because he felt that no Abian should be harassed or unjustly attacked for expressing their democratic rights within the ambit of the law, and urged them to remain peaceful and law abiding even as they courageously demand and work for a better Abia.
Also speaking, a senior citizen and chieftain of the APC from Isialangwa South, Chief Sir. Victor Amuta praised the women for the wisdom and courage to embark on the visit and assured them that 2023 would be a year of accomplishment for the APC in Abia .
